CUNY BPL has provided technical assistance to the Innovative Demonstrations for Energy Adaptability (IDEA) program, an initiative of the NYC Dept. of Citywide Administrative Services Energy Management Division (DEM), since its inception in FY2015. In FY2017, DEM implemented IDEA Phase III, which focused on HVAC technologies. BPL evaluated seven vendor M&V plans for 10 sites and attended technology vendor training sessions for facility staff.
For FY2018, CUNY BPL designed and is executing a work plan to monitor and evaluate Phase II, energy storage, projects. This phase requires a different approach: the team will be evaluating the performance of the batteries instead of the usual M&V of energy savings. CUNY BPL also expects to assist DEM in rethinking the future of the IDEA program.
